My oldest son Alex, who is almost 9 years old, has been reviewing How to Draw the Life and Times of Chester A. Arthur for the past week, for Timberdoodle, which is part of the A Kid's Guide to Drawing the Presidents of the USA Complete Set.
Here is a little rundown of what this book covers. As the title states, there is information about the life and death of former President Chester A. Arthur. Including details ranging from where he was born, to his military service, to where he was buried after his death. The book is small, coming in at 32 pages. There are 13 chapters and each chapter has a drawing to complete in the end, with 8 steps to follow, to do so.
The writing about the Chester A. Arthur is easy to read and understand and has the pertinent information covered while not becoming boring, long winded or redundant.
The art portion done in steps, is easy to understand and easy enough for the child who may be a less less gifted in their are skills ;). It is however, still enough for the child more gifted in art as well.
Alexander's thoughts: "This book taught me a lot about Arthur, but it wasn't boring and the drawing made it even more fun. I like it."
Mom's thoughts: I feel these books, especially the whole series would make a great supplement or filler in your History curriculum. I do not personally find them to be enough to use on their own for History, but I also don't believe Timberdoodle recommends them as such. I definitely give this 2 thumbs up as a fun supplement!
Right now this full set is selling on Timberdoodle for $195 and the original full price is $1060.50. That is such an insanely low price for 42 books! If I had the money right now, I'd personally own the whole set. Go here to receive Timberdoodle's free catalog and don't forget to fan them on Facebook!
